COACHES ARE THE FORCES THAT DETERMINE AN ATHLETE’S FATE
Kristi Shoemaker, Competitive Head Coach
Kristi is a level 3 certified coach, who was formerly a competitive gymnast herself at the provincial level. Kristi received the gymnast of the year award in 2001, was provincial champion in 2003 and represented Prince Edward Island at the 2003 Eastern Canadian Championships. With over a decade of coaching experience, she has coached in both Prince Edward Island and Ontario.
Kristi had the opportunity to coach in Toronto Ontario for 2 years. During her time in Ontario she worked with many Olympic level coaches and was an employee at one of the most respected gymnastics clubs in the province. Studying the sport of artistic gymnastics and attending numerous coaching courses is what led Kristi back home to Prince Edward Island to capture her dream of operating a gymnastics centre.
Kristi has developed many successful athletes, and strives to continue to demonstrate excellence in athletes of all levels in the province of Prince Edward Island.
Dave Clark, Assistant Head Coach
Dave has been invloved with gymnastics since he was 6 years old and has been coaching for 8 years. Dave was the youngest competitior at the 1999 Canada Winter Games, where he competed for team PEI at age 11. Dave holds national GOLD, SILVER and BRONZE medals on vault.
With experience in coaching both boys and girls artistic gymnastics Dave has coached in Prince Edward Island as well as Nova Scotia where he was the coach of the first gymnast to be on the Canada Games and National team from Cape Breton.
We are very excited to have Dave return to his hometown of PEI and coach with us here at Victory Gymnastics, he is a great asset to our club.
Sophia Kyriakopoulos, Competitive Coach
Sophia is a level two certified coach who is looking forward to gaining her level 3 certification this summer. Sophia competed as a provincial level gymnast herself in the province of Ontario where she claimed the title of provincial champion in 2003.
With seven years coaching experience and a background in both gymnastics and cheerleading, Sophia is the perfect addition to our coaching staff.
Amanda Little, Recreational Coach
Amanda was a competitive gymnast in Ontario for 10 years. During her competitive years, she competed as a level 6 athlete. She won several invitational meets and qualified to compete in the Ontario Championships each year. Amanda finished eighth on beam provincially and had a first place finish place at the Ogopogo Invitational Meet in Kelowna, BC. After retiring from training Amanda decided to take up coaching and has now been coaching for 4 years.
Amanda is a level two certified artistic gymnastics coach as well as level one certified trampoline coach. Amanda is attending UPEI to gain her Bachelor of Science and plans on continuing her education to gain her DVM.
Emma Matheson, Recreational Coach
Emma was a provincial level gymnast for five years and was involved with gymnastics for over a decade. Emma has experience in competing and coaching at a competitive level, representing PEI at the Atlantic Championships is her best memory as a competitive athlete.
Emma takes great pride in her coaching position here at Victory Gymnastics and is looking forward to gaining her levels of certification.
